Dr. William Powers IV, Advisor

Dr. Powers graduated summa cum laude from Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia and attended medical school at Eastern Virginia Medical School. He completed his general surgery residency at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, and a fellowship in surgical critical care at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Dr. Powers is fellowship trained in surgical critical care and board certified in general surgery. He is an assistant professor of surgery in the NHRMC Surgery Residency Program and provides elective general surgery services, as well as acute care surgery services to include trauma, critical care and emergency general surgery. His special interests include traumatic brain injury, coagulopathy of trauma, advanced mechanical ventilation, complex abdominal wall reconstruction, and development of evidenced-based surgical best practices. In addition to caring for critically ill patients, Dr. Powers performs a variety of general surgery procedures through his own practice at General Surgery Specialists, located in Wilmington, NC.
